The 2010 Matallana is produced with a mixture of Tempranillo and other grapes from three plots in villages of the province of Burgos with a diversity of soils and locations, all of them head-pruned and fermented in 3,000 kilo oak vats. It has intense beef-blood aromas, is very wild and full of character, with no aromas of wood, and is austere and clearly soil-driven. The wine aged from 15-18 months in French oak barrels and has benefited from this long, slow oxygenation, with no aromas or flavors of the wood. The medium to full-bodied palate reveals a wine that is long and intense with good acidity and ultra-refined tannins. 2,300 bottles were produced. An outstanding interpretation of Ribera del Duero.
