Parker about Château Meyney 2003
Tasted blind at Farr Vintner's Left Bank tasting. Wow. Where did this come from? The Meyney '03 was not one of the better Saint Estephes in its youth, but it is certainly blossoming with age. It has a very bold, lifted bouquet with damson, plum, cedar and pinecone aromas. Moderate definition, perhaps showing a little over-ripeness. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, the tannins a little aggressive but there is more than enough fruit concentration to back it up. Rigid backbone on the finish with an agreeable degree of freshness.

Château Meyney 2003

The 2003 Château Meyney is a powerful and expressive Bordeaux from Saint-Estèphe, a region known for its robust and long-aging wines. The 2003 vintage in Bordeaux was characterized by exceptional heat, producing wines that are rich, opulent, and fully ripe.
The wine has a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red color. The bouquet is intense and rich, with concentrated aromas of black currants, blackberries, and ripe plums. These robust fruit notes are accompanied by spicy accents such as licorice, black pepper, and tobacco. Subtle notes of cedarwood and chocolate, derived from the aging in oak barrels, add additional complexity to the wine.
On the palate, the Château Meyney 2003 is full-bodied and powerful, with a dense, almost velvety texture. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, yet lend the wine structure and depth. The fruit flavors are lush and concentrated, with the warmth of the vintage evident, yet balanced by well-preserved acidity that lends the wine freshness and balance. Secondary aromas of leather, smoke, and a hint of earth develop in the background, underscoring the wine's complex character.
The finish is long and intense, with a lingering presence of dark fruits and spicy notes that slowly fade, leaving a warm, satisfying finish. The Château Meyney 2003 is in an excellent drinking window now, but also has the potential to develop positively over the years.
This wine is an ideal accompaniment to hearty meat dishes such as lamb, game, or grilled beef, as well as mature cheeses. It offers a rich and intense drinking experience for lovers of powerful Bordeaux wines.
