Region Priory
With a vineyard area of only approx. 2,500 hectares, the region is one of the smallest wine-growing areas in Spain. However, Priorat, located in the Catalan Comarca region, is the oldest wine-growing region in Catalonia. Since 2001, Priorat has been raised to the highest Spanish quality level (Denominación de Origen Calificada) - an honor otherwise only bestowed on Rioja. The region is best known for its dark, concentrated and very alcoholic red wines.
