Region of Abruzzo
Abruzzo is one of the most traditional wine-growing regions in Italy. Even the Romans used the varied climatic conditions for winegrowing. The landforms of the region lying between the mountains of the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea range from high mountains to the sea coast. The variety of wines that it produces is correspondingly large. The well-known red Montepulciano grape is cultivated on around 35,000 hectares of vineyards.
