Wine-growing has also been practiced on the Azores archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic for centuries. This is mainly concentrated on the three islands of Pico, Graciosa and Terceira. Each of the three islands is home to its own DOC, which at Pica and Graciosa is named after the islands themselves. The volcanic soils of the Azores give the archipelago's wines a very special aroma with notes of stone and smoke. The Atlantic weather contributes a pinch of saltiness.
