Dao region
With around 20,000 hectares of vineyards, the Dão region in the interior of Portugal is one of the largest wine-growing areas in the country. The peculiarity of the area is its special geography, which ensures an excellent microclimate. The sheltered location surrounded by mountain ranges keeps the cool and humid influences of the Atlantic at bay. In combination with barren, stony soils, the best conditions for the cultivation of red wine are created. The region's elegant and complex red wines are mainly made from the Alfrocheiro, Aragones, Jaen and Touriga Nacional grape varieties. The aromatic fine white wines come from the grape varieties Encruzado, Malvasia and Vercial.
