Château Leoville Barton
The history of Château Léoville Barton dates back to the 18th century. The estate was founded in 1826 by Hugh Barton and has remained under the ownership and management of the Barton family ever since. The Barton family has a deep connection to the Bordeaux region and has nurtured the estate for generations.
Château Léoville Barton is located in the Saint-Julien appellation, in the southern part of the Médoc region of Bordeaux. The vineyards cover approximately 50 hectares and are planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The terroir of Château Léoville Barton consists of gravelly and calcareous soils that provide excellent drainage. The proximity to the Gironde and the Atlantic contributes to temperature regulation and promotes even grape ripening.
The wines of Château Léoville Barton are characterized by their power, structure, and elegance. They are known for aromas of black fruits, cassis, tobacco, cedarwood, and spices. These wines offer well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity, making them ideal for aging.
The château has been owned and managed by the Barton family for generations. The family has preserved the winery's long-standing traditions while incorporating modern techniques to further enhance the quality of the wines.
Léoville Barton was included in the official Bordeaux Classification in 1855 and awarded the status of Deuxième Grand Cru Classé. This makes it one of the most respected wineries in Saint-Julien and throughout Bordeaux.
