Remelluri
Remelluri is one of the most respected and traditional wineries in Rioja, known for its profound, terroir-driven wines. Located in the Labastida region, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, the winery cultivates around 100 hectares of vineyards planted on limestone and slate soils on the slopes of the Sierra de Cantabria massif. Dating back to the 14th century, the winery was originally a monastic winery. Today, it is run by Telmo Rodríguez, one of Spain's most influential winemakers, who carries on the legacy of his father, Jaime Rodríguez Salis, who has brought the winery to international acclaim.
Remelluri's philosophy is strongly influenced by biodynamics and a close-to-nature approach. The vineyards are cultivated without chemical intervention, and the grapes are hand-harvested in multiple passes to ensure only the finest harvest. The wines are characterized by impressive freshness, clarity, and precise, finely structured fruit that reflect the specific characteristics of the terroir.
The winery's flagship cuvée, Remelluri Reserva , blends primarily Tempranillo, but also Garnacha and Graciano, and is known for its balance of fruit, acidity, and structure. This wine exhibits aromas of dark berries, spices, as well as floral and mineral notes. In exceptional years, the Remelluri Gran Reserva is also produced, a wine of exceptional complexity and aging potential.
Remelluri has also launched a line called Lindes de Remelluri , made from grapes from neighboring vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. These wines are characterized by their precision and freshness, offering a clear interpretation of the terroir.
Remelluri remains an example of a harmonious combination of tradition and innovation, and its wines are known for their long ageing potential and the unique terroir of Rioja Alavesa.
