With over 400,000 hectares of vineyards, the USA is the fourth largest wine-growing country in the world. The state of California, from which around 90 percent of the production volume comes, is almost synonymous with viticulture in the USA. What is forgotten is that vines are also cultivated in many other US states, from Alaska in the north across the Pacific coast to New York on the Atlantic coast.

California Region
With over 250,000 hectares of vineyards, California is not only by far the most important wine-growing region in the USA, but also one of the most important in the world. Around 90 percent of the wines made in the USA come from the US state on the Pacific coast. Since the legendary "Judment of Paris" in 1976, a tasting at which French wines competed against Californian wines and the latter won, the wines of the US West Coast have been known and loved all over the world. Due to the large geographical north-south extension of the wine-growing region of over 1,000 kilometers, countless grape varieties thrive here in a wide variety of climatic conditions.
Napa Valley region
California's rolling Napa Valley wine region is home to more than 400 historic and modern wineries. Wine connoisseurs usually associate the growing area and popular travel destination with the famous Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Due to the different climate in the 18,000 hectare valley region, the vines are planted differently depending on the location, thus enabling a wide range of other varieties.
