Traisental region
The Traisental is a charming and up-and-coming wine region in Lower Austria, stretching along the Traisen River of the same name. Located southwest of Vienna, the region is one of Austria's smaller wine-growing areas, yet it has earned a reputation for its high-quality wines.
The climate in the Traisental Valley is continental, influenced by the nearby Alps. The vineyards benefit from warm summers and cool nights, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and develop their aromas optimally. The soils in the region vary greatly, consisting of limestone, slate, and loess, which lend the wines remarkable diversity.
The main grape variety in the Traisental Valley is Grüner Veltliner, which thrives here in optimal conditions and produces wines of exceptional quality. Traisental Grüner Veltliners are known for their fresh and fruity aromas of citrus fruits, green apples, and white pepper. They are lively and crisp with elegant acidity and are an excellent accompaniment to many dishes.
In addition to Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay are also successfully cultivated in the region. The Rieslings from the Traisental Valley impress with intense aromas of peach and apricot, and a mineral character. The Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay are elegant and balanced, with fruity notes and a delicate acidity.
The winemakers in the Traisental Valley are committed to sustainable farming methods and traditional winemaking techniques to ensure the high quality of their wines. They are proud of their tradition and their connection to nature, which is reflected in every glass of their wines.
Visitors have the opportunity to explore the Traisental wine region and sample the wines directly from the winemakers. Many wineries offer wine tastings and tours of the vineyards, allowing you to experience the beauty of the landscape and the passion of the winemakers firsthand.
