Region of Languedoc-Roussillon
The Mediterranean region is not only the southernmost wine-growing region on mainland France, but also the oldest. Wine was already cultivated here in antiquity and in the Middle Ages. In addition, Languedoc-Roussillon, with a cultivation area of around 250,000 hectares, is more than twice the size of the sum of all German cultivation areas. The variety of wines from the region is correspondingly large. It ranges from dry sparkling wines to natural sweet wines and light everyday wines to red and white top crus.
