The northernmost vineyards in the USA are located in the state of Washington. The main growing area is the Columbia Valley, where around 16,000 hectares are under vines. Thanks to large temperature differences between day and night and a long period of sunshine, wines with a complex structure and lively acidity thrive here. The most important varieties of regional cultivation are Chardonnay, Merlot and Riesling.
