Domaine Armand Rousseau
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy's most legendary wineries and is particularly renowned for its Pinot Noirs from Gevrey-Chambertin. Since its founding in the early 20th century, it has stood for wines of exceptional finesse, elegance, and impressive aging potential.
With approximately 15 hectares of vineyards, the domaine owns some of the most coveted sites in the Côte de Nuits. Chambertin Grand Cru is the house's most powerful and structured wine, profound and complex. Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is often more refined and elegant, with floral nuances and subtle spice. Clos Saint-Jacques Premier Cru is one of Burgundy's finest Premier Crus, offering a perfect balance of fruit, acidity, and tannin. Vineyard management follows a nature-oriented philosophy with precise canopy management and sustainable cultivation.
The vinification remains true to tradition. The grapes are carefully harvested and selected by hand. Fermentation takes place with a high proportion of whole-bunch fermentation, which lends the wines structure and aromatic complexity. Aging takes place in French oak, with a moderate proportion of new oak, approximately 20–50% for the Grand Crus.
Armand Rousseau's wines are often closed in their youth, but gain depth and expression with age. They exhibit aromas of red and black berries, rose petals, spices, and a distinctive mineral note. The tannins are present but silky, and the acid structure ensures exceptional longevity. Great vintages reach their peak after 15–30 years and are among the most sought-after collector's items worldwide. Domaine Armand Rousseau embodies Burgundy in its purest and most refined form.
