Ahr region

With a cultivation area of around 560 hectares, the Ahr region is one of the smallest wine-growing areas in Germany. The cultivation area, named after the tributary of the Rhine, extends over a length of around 25 kilometers on the south-facing steep slopes of the deep river valley. The Ahr is Germany's largest closed wine-growing region for red wine. Pinot Noir and Portuguese are primarily cultivated on the slopes of the river. A special feature of the Ahr region is the focus on ecological winegrowing. The wine region was the first in Germany to refrain from using insecticides across the board.
