Priory
With a vineyard area of only approx. 2,500 hectares, the region is one of the smallest wine-growing areas in Spain. However, Priorat, located in the Catalan Comarca region, is the oldest wine-growing region in Catalonia. Since 2001, Priorat has been raised to the highest Spanish quality level (Denominación de Origen Calificada) - an honor otherwise only bestowed on Rioja. The wine-growing region in northern Spain covers 23,000 hectares of vineyards. The region is named after the river Duero, which flows through the entire area. La Rioja is undoubtedly the most internationally renowned wine region and the first Spanish wine region to have a global image of quality. However, the classic Rioja wine is a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo varieties. The popularity of the wines is largely based on the so-called "Reservas" and "Gran Reservas", which are aged in barrels for years before they are marketed.
