Wagram region

The Wagram region is one of Austria's emerging wine regions and is located northwest of Vienna. The name "Wagram" derives from the characteristic hills that rise along the Danube River and form an impressive backdrop for the vineyards. The Wagram region has a long winemaking tradition dating back to the Middle Ages and has developed into an important center for high-quality wines.

The climate in the Wagram region is Pannonian, with warm and dry summers and mild winters. The proximity to the Danube River acts as a natural temperature regulator, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The soils are characterized by loess and loess-clay, which lend the wines remarkable minerality and structure.

The main grape variety in the Wagram region is Grüner Veltliner. Wagram Grüner Veltliners are characterized by their freshness, fruitiness, and spiciness. They exhibit aromas of ripe apples, peaches, citrus fruits, and a hint of pepper. The wines are full-bodied and lively with pronounced acidity and a long finish.

In addition to Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and Chardonnay are also successfully cultivated in the Wagram region. The Rieslings from the Wagram region impress with their intense fruitiness, racy acidity, and impressive ageing potential. The Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay are elegant and balanced, with fruity notes and a subtle oak note.

The winemakers in the Wagram region are passionate about sustainable cultivation methods and traditional winemaking techniques. They value manual labor and meticulous vineyard care to harvest high-quality grapes and produce authentic wines of outstanding quality.
