Saxony region
With a cultivation area of only 500 hectares, Saxony is the third smallest cultivation area in Germany and also the furthest to the east. The area extends around the Saxon state capital of Dresden and runs along the Elbe for around 50 kilometers. The relatively low-lime soils on the slopes of the Elbe give the region's wines a dry taste with fruity acidity. The main grape varieties are Müller-Thurgau, Riesling and Pinot Blanc.
