South Tyrol region
With a cultivation area of only around 5,500 hectares, South Tyrol is one of the smallest, but at the same time one of the finest wine-growing regions in Italy. This is mainly due to the climatic and geological diversity of the region in the Italian Alps. Very different soils and different altitudes between 200 and almost 1,000 meters ensure that South Tyrolean winegrowers produce a wide range of excellent red and white wines. The most important varieties of the alpine region include Lagrein, Vernatsch and Gewürztraminer.
