Region of Umbria
The traditional wine-growing region of Umbria is located in one of the hilliest and most mountainous regions of Italy, where the Umbrians and Etruscans were already cultivating wine more than 3000 years ago. Today, mainly red vines are cultivated on an area of around 25,000 hectares. The Sagrantino grape, which produces complex and powerful wines, is particularly common. But the sweet wine Passito is also one of the specialties of Umbria.
