Markus Molitor
Markus Molitor is one of the Mosel's leading winemakers and is known for his uncompromising quality philosophy, encompassing a vast range of top-quality wines, from dry to sweet Rieslings. The winery cultivates approximately 120 hectares on some of the most renowned steep slopes of the Middle Mosel, including Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Ürziger Würzgarten, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, and Erdener Treppchen. In addition to Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc are also produced to remarkable standards.
The vineyards are cultivated in a natural way, using meticulous manual labor in the extremely steep vineyards. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand in several selective rounds to ensure grapes reach optimal physiological ripeness. The wines are fermented spontaneously, often for months, to preserve maximum complexity and expressiveness. Depending on the wine, aging takes place in stainless steel tanks or large wooden barrels, with extended lees aging providing additional depth.
Molitor's Rieslings are known for their clear, precise fruit, pronounced minerality, and tremendous longevity. The dry wines are powerful, profound, and taut, while the fruity and sweet Rieslings demonstrate a perfect balance between acidity and sweetness. The Trockenbeerenauslese wines are particularly outstanding, setting standards with their complexity, precision, and ageability. The house's Pinot Noirs, often aged in barriques, exhibit a cool, precise style with finesse and elegance.
Markus Molitor stands for an uncompromising interpretation of the Mosel terroir, characterized by precision, authenticity, and impressive aging potential. His wines are among the finest and longest-lasting in the region and enjoy the highest international acclaim.
