The Santa Barbara wine region is one of the better-known wine-growing regions on the Pacific coast of the USA. This is also due to its geographical proximity to the metropolis of Los Angeles. The region forms the southern end of California's Central Coast growing region. In the relatively cool and Mediterranean climate of Santa Barbara, more sensitive grapes such as Pinot Noir thrive in addition to the typical Californian varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel.
