Parker about Château Cos D'Estournel 1996

Tasted at the château, the 1996 Cos d'Estournel was aged in 65% new oak (unlike the 1995 which was 100%) and is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. It has a straight down the line, intense and focused, graphite and melted tar bouquet. It is almost Pauillac in style, no surprise given its proximity. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, finer tannin than the 1986 Cos d'Estournel tasted alongside, but sharing those same leitmotifs of black pepper and sea salt. I like the nonchalance of this Cos d'Estournel. At 20 years it is not an ostentatious wine, not determined to go out and impress, but its nuance, stylishness and classicism grow on you. Its virtues seem to register only after you swallow the wine and find yourself tempted back for more. Excellent.

Produktbeschreibung

Château Cos D'Estournel 1996

Château Cos d'Estournel 1996 is a renowned red wine from the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux, France. The Château Cos d'Estournel winery is known for its excellent wines and is considered one of the most important in the region.

The 1996 Château Cos d'Estournel presents a deep, dark red color with slightly ripe reflections. On the nose, it unfolds a complex and rich bouquet of black fruits such as black currants, black cherries, and plums. These aromas are accompanied by notes of tobacco, cedarwood, spices, and a subtle mineral nuance. The bouquet is intense and displays the characteristic depth of a mature Bordeaux wine.

On the palate, the Château Cos d'Estournel 1996 displays impressive structure and elegance. The tannins are well integrated and give the wine a smooth texture. The wine is full-bodied and complex, with generous fruitiness and aromas of black berries, spices, and a hint of smoke. The acidity is lively, lending the wine freshness and balance. The finish is long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of intensity and refinement.

Château Cos d'Estournel 1996 is an exceptional Bordeaux wine, accessible in its youth but also possessing great aging potential. It pairs wonderfully with dishes such as roast beef, leg of lamb, or mature hard cheeses. With its complexity, structure, and depth, it is a delight for lovers of sophisticated Bordeaux wines.
