Parker about Château Haut-Batailley 2000
The 2000 Haut Batailley, served by Xavier Borie at Grand-Puy-Lacoste, showed a slight herbaceous note on the nose, accompanied by cedar and graphite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with still quite tough tannins, foursquare in style and perhaps just missing a little persistence on the finish. As a big fan of this property, perhaps I was a little underwhelmed by this example and it was shown up by the superior 1995. Tasted July 2016.

Château Haut-Batailley 2000

Château Haut-Batailley 2000 is an outstanding wine from Pauillac that masterfully combines the characteristics of its terroir and the particularities of the 2000 vintage.
On the nose, the wine displays a complex palette of aromas of dark berry fruits such as cassis and blackberries, accompanied by notes of tobacco, cedarwood, and a hint of vanilla. These aromas are intense and well-balanced, indicating the optimal ripeness of the grapes.
On the palate, Château Haut-Batailley 2000 presents itself with impressive richness and structure. The tannins are ripe and supple, resulting in a silky texture and harmonious mouthfeel. The fruit flavors are generous and full-bodied, supported by balanced acidity that gives the wine freshness. Nuances of dark chocolate, espresso, and a subtle mineral note contribute to the complexity and add dimension to the wine.
The finish is long and elegant, with a remarkable persistence of fruit flavors and spices. Château Haut-Batailley 2000 is an excellent example of the quality of the 2000 vintage in Pauillac, offering both immediate enjoyment and the potential for slow development in bottle.
