Parker about Geisberg Riesling Kabinett Goldkapsel Methuselah Auction Wine 2023
The 2023 Geisberg Kabinett (auction) is from the anterior part of the cru that was planted by Markus Molitor about eight years ago with a focus on acidity and finesse. Provided with a deep, pure, elegant and already complex bouquet, this Geisberg is sharp, precise and juicy on the palate. It is pretty intense, very long and saline, with lemon and orange aromas and a stimulating slate grip. This Cabinet already dreams of becoming a Grosses Gewächs once the vines have become older. Tasted as a sample to be bottled at the end of August and to be auctioned in November. 7.5% stated alcohol. Tasted at the domaine in early August 2024.

Geisberg Riesling Kabinett Goldkapsel Methuselah Auction Wine 2023

The 2023 Geisberg Riesling Kabinett Gold Capsule Auction Wine from Van Volxem is an exceptional, rare Riesling offered exclusively through the VDP auction. The Geisberg, a spectacular steep slope on the Saar River, with its unique terroir—characterized by Devonian slate and quartzite—produces wines of great finesse and minerality. The 2023 Gold Capsule version demonstrates a masterful balance between brilliant acidity, delicate fruit sweetness, and intense aromatics. Notes of ripe white peach, candied lemon, honeydew melon, and subtle herbs combine with a vibrant mineral backbone. On the palate, the wine appears almost weightless, with a beguiling elegance and depth favored by the cool Saar climate. The delicate residual sweetness is perfectly balanced by the precise acidity, giving it exceptional freshness and a long, saline, mineral finish. This Kabinett has enormous aging potential and is a prime example of the great art of residually sweet Riesling.
