Parker about Ribera del Duero Crianza 1995
This project, from a large estate in Ribera del Duero, has the gifted Danish winemaker, Peter Sisseck (of Pingus fame), as the winemaker. Produced from extremely low yields (15-20 hectoliters per hectare), this offering is a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. This wine is a sexy, exotic wine that could be called Spanish Pomerol. The 1995 Crianza (14.6% alcohol) presents a saturated plum color, followed by a knock-out nose of melted chocolate and blackberry fruit, a lush, voluptuous texture, low acidity, and gobs of glycerin and fruit. This hedonistic wine is ideal for drinking over the next decade.

Ribera del Duero Crianza 1995

The Ribera del Duero Crianza 1995 from Hacienda Monasterio is a stunning wine that beautifully reflects the power and elegance of the Ribera del Duero terroir. In the glass, it reveals a deep, garnet-brown color, indicative of its maturity. The nose is rich and complex, with aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberries and cassis, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla, cedarwood, and hints of leather and tobacco. A subtle spice of black pepper and dried herbs adds additional depth and complexity to the bouquet.
On the palate, the wine unfolds with a full-bodied structure and a pleasant texture. The tannins are well-integrated and smooth, while the fruit flavors remain present and are accompanied by earthy and spicy nuances. The acidity is lively and provides a beautiful balance that gives the wine freshness and longevity. The aromas of ripe berries and dried fruits continue on the palate, complemented by subtle hints of chocolate and coffee from the barrel aging.
The finish is long and harmonious, with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, and a subtle mineral note. The 1995 vintage has developed excellently and offers a profound and elegant drinking experience that impressively showcases the quality and craftsmanship of Hacienda Monasterio.
