Parker about Sassicaia 1997
Now this is more like it. A very Bordeaux-like nose with cedar, cigar box, autumn leaves and a touch of damp earth. With some aeration, more Morello evolves, a touch of raspberry. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, very crisp and quite backward: a wine that seems to have gone back into its shell. Again, it is entirely in the vein of a Bordeaux, Saint Julien to be more precise with a fairly austere, reserved finish. Good weight though, so I would give another 5 or 6-years before opening a bottle.

Sassicaia 1997

The 1997 Sassicaia is a legendary wine from Tuscany, considered one of the finest vintages of this iconic Super Tuscan. Produced by Tenuta San Guido, Sassicaia is one of the pioneers of the Super Tuscan style, which blends Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in Tuscany. The 1997 vintage is particularly noteworthy and is prized for its outstanding quality and longevity.
In the glass, the 1997 Sassicaia presents a deep ruby red, which may develop slight brick-red hues over time. The nose is complex and layered, with aromas of ripe blackcurrants, plums, and cherries, complemented by notes of cedarwood, tobacco, leather, and spices. With increasing age, additional nuances of truffles, earth, and delicate balsamic vinegar develop, lending the wine a special depth.
On the palate, the 1997 Sassicaia is full-bodied and elegant, with well-integrated, ripe tannins and harmonious acidity that lends the wine freshness and balance. The fruit aromas are concentrated and well-balanced, with dark berries and plums blending with spicy, smoky, and chocolate notes. The texture is smooth and velvety, and the finish is long and persistent, with a fine mineral note and lingering fruit flavors.
Sassicaia's 1997 vintage is in an excellent drinking window and is currently at its best. The wine has the potential to age for several more years and gain further complexity.

Information about the winemaker:
What kind of winery are we talking about when we talk about San Guido and why is it so special? The history of San Guido can be traced back to the 1940s. The estate was founded by Mario Incisa della Rochetta, who was considered a visionary of his kind at the time. His descendants continue to run the winery extremely successfully and consistently stick to the methods of their predecessors, which certainly contributes significantly to the success of the wine. The Sassicaia has been imitated again and again over the years. However, no other producer has succeeded in copying the noble drop, because: The Sassicaia is unique.
