Parker about Sauvignon Blanc “Terra Rossa” Westhofen 2022
The 2022 Westhofen Sauvignon Blanc Terra Rossa comes from Weedenborn's oldest vines planted in 2001 on iron-rich limestone and was vinified in 60% oak (1,600-liter piece from Stockinger) and 40% stainless steel. It opens with a pure, remarkably refined and elegant bouquet of yellow grapefruits, green figs and ripe dates intertwined with delicate herbal, smoky and saline notes. Very elegant and refined on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, dense and finely tannic Sauvignon Blanc with a citric, refreshing, intense and textural finish. Gesine's decision to market the wine nine months after the bottling was a wise one. Bottled in July 2023, to be released in March 2024. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in August 2023.

Sauvignon Blanc “Terra Rossa” Westhofen 2022

Very captivating aromas of fresh mint, ripe grapefruit, and gooseberries. In the mouth, this is immediately followed by an incredible mineral complexity that engages the entire palate. There are also very precise aromas of tropical fruits, ripe mango, papaya, and physalis. Opulent yet elegant and full of finesse.
Origin
This local wine grows on the special and rare Terra Rossa soil in the heart of the Westhofener Steingrube.
Expansion
Sauvignon Blanc practically demands consistent work from the winemaker in the vineyard and cellar, even more so than other grape varieties. After the hand-harvest, the grapes were processed with dry ice to protect the must from oxidation. This is important to us with Sauvignon Blanc, as the typical Sauvignon Blanc aromas are highly volatile when exposed to oxygen—meaning they are quickly lost.
