Parker about Château d'Yquem Sauternes 1997
A vintage of exceptional weather, 1997 was a relatively warm, drought vintage equating to a very slow onset of botrytis this year. The warm temperatures contributed plenty of sweetness, while light rains late in the season finally spurred the spread of noble red, making for a potentially very good Sauternes vintage in the end. However, strict selection was critical, ultimately allowing d'Yquem to craft an impressive wine well above the vintage's standard.

As one of the world's most renowned wineries, Château d'Yquem stands for the highest quality and perfection in winemaking. The 1997 vintage confirms this reputation with flying colors.
In the glass, the Château d'Yquem 1997 displays a deep golden color that becomes even more intense and radiant with age. The bouquet is rich and seductive, characterized by a variety of complex aromas. Ripe apricots, peaches, and candied citrus fruits dominate the nose, accompanied by notes of honey, caramel, and dried fruits. Subtle hints of spices, such as saffron and vanilla, as well as a light smoky note from the oak barrel aging, round out the aroma profile.
On the palate, the 1997 Château d'Yquem reveals itself as a masterpiece of balance and elegance. The rich sweetness is perfectly balanced by lively acidity, giving the wine freshness and structure. The texture is silky and luscious, with aromas of ripe fruit, honey, and caramel unfolding with impressive depth and complexity.
