Parker about Late Bottled Vintage Port 2019

The 2019 Late Bottled Vintage Port is unfiltered and closed with a cork, the serious style of this category, from a very good year in the style of 2005 or 2015 that can age for decades. It has 100 grams of sugar and is velvety and really a mini Vintage Port, aged for a bit longer in cask (but short for the category) and bottled in its fourth year. It's still tannic and a bit closed, with the tannin is cushioning the sweetness. It could be drunk now but should be a lot more complex with time in bottle. It has balance with a large structure, able to age for a long time. 2019 was a very complete year for Port. They produced 100,000 bottles of this. It was bottled in 2023

Produktbeschreibung

Late Bottled Vintage Port 2019

Niepoort's 2019 Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV) is an excellent choice for port wine lovers seeking an approachable, well-structured wine that's ready to enjoy at a relatively young age. Late Bottled Vintage Ports are special port wines that come from a single harvest and are aged longer in wooden barrels than vintage ports before release. This gives them an added maturity and complexity that often makes them more accessible, without the need for extended bottle aging.

Niepoort's LBV 2019 typically displays a deep ruby red color, which can develop a beautiful darker hue over time. On the nose, the wine reveals intense aromas of ripe dark fruits such as plums, cherries, and blackberries, complemented by notes of chocolate, vanilla, and a hint of spice. The oak influences from the barrel aging add subtle nuances of roasted coffee and tobacco.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with balanced acidity and well-integrated tannins that lend structure and depth. The fruitiness is complemented by a subtle spice and a light oak note, leading to a harmonious and persistent finish.

Niepoort's 2019 LBV is a wine that's perfect for immediate consumption, offering high quality and complexity. It's ideal for a variety of occasions and pairs well with a variety of foods, including robust cheeses, chocolate desserts, or simply as a pleasant wine to enjoy with good conversation.

Information about the winemaker:

The history of the traditional company begins almost 200 years ago, when Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, a young, ambitious Dutchman from near Amsterdam, laid the foundation for the wine company. After emigrating to Portugal and gaining some experience in the wine trade, he founded today's winery in 1842. According to the region, he focused on port wines.
