Parker about Tignanello 2021
First made in 1971, this legendary Italian wine now celebrates its 50th birthday. Happy Birthday, Tignanello! The Marchesi Antinori 2021 Tignanello (made with 79% Sangiovese, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc) pulls on all the heartstrings. To be released in May, the wine shows a quintessentially pretty taste profile with tart fruit flavors, redcurrant, tea leaf, heritage rose, crushed white pepper, licorice, nutmeg, clove and chopped mint. It slowly opens to reveal more richness and exuberance with time, becoming downright voluptuous and heady a short while later. The through line, however, remains the bright freshness and minerality of Sangiovese. Compared to the 2018 vintage (which I also loved), this vintage has more overall fruit weight and volume.

Tignanello 2021

The 2021 Tignanello, a gem from the Antinori vineyards, shines a deep ruby red in the glass and entices with an enticing bouquet of ripe red fruits such as cherries, blackberries, and cassis. This is complemented by elegant notes of spices such as cloves, black pepper, and a hint of vanilla, testifying to its aging in French oak barrels.
On the palate, the 2021 Tignanello unfolds its full splendor with a silky texture and remarkable complexity. Juicy aromas of dark chocolate, sweet spices, and a hint of tobacco blend harmoniously, accompanied by a smooth acidity that lends the wine freshness and vibrancy.
The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, and the wine presents itself with a long, lingering finish that indulges the palate and leaves a lasting impression. The 2021 Tignanello is a wine of impressive elegance and finesse that brilliantly captures the terroir of the Tuscan vineyards and delights wine lovers around the world.
