Champagne Blanc de Blancs Clos du Mesnil Brut 1989

The Champagne Blanc de Blancs Clos du Mesnil Brut 1989 is an exceptional vintage champagne from Krug, one of the world's most respected champagne houses. This champagne is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from the Clos du Mesnil, a 1.84-hectare walled vineyard located in the commune of Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs region. The Clos du Mesnil is renowned for its exceptional terroir and produces some of the finest Blanc de Blancs champagnes.
The 1989 vintage is distinguished by its outstanding quality and distinctive character. The Clos du Mesnil 1989 presents a light, radiant golden color with a fine, persistent perlage. Its bouquet is complex and elegant, with aromas of citrus fruits, white peach, and apple, accompanied by notes of roasted nuts and a hint of honey. With increasing maturity, additional aromas of brioche, almonds, and a subtle minerality develop.
On the palate, the Clos du Mesnil 1989 displays remarkable freshness and vibrancy, paired with a creamy texture. Well-integrated acidity contributes to the wine's balance and longevity. The citrus and green apple flavors are complemented by notes of honey, almond, and light toast. The finish is long and elegant, characterized by mineral purity.
This vintage champagne has enormous aging potential. Even more than 30 years after harvest, it still exhibits freshness and complexity and, with optimal storage, can continue to age for many years. Although decanting is uncommon for champagnes, a brief aeration can help this complex and mature vintage champagne fully develop its aromas. The optimal serving temperature is 10-12°C.
The Clos du Mesnil 1989 pairs perfectly with fine dishes such as lobster, scallops, oysters, caviar, and elegant fish dishes. Mature cheeses can also be an excellent accompaniment.
