Parker about Kreuzberg Riesling 2022
From a plot next to the Schwarzer Herrgott, the 2022 Zell Kreuzberg GG is concentrated and highly refined on the nose that shows an intense and finely spicy bouquet with blueberry and heath aromas. Silky, refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense, lush yet structured Riesling with a very firm structure and concentration, also in terms of acidity. It's very tight, very firm and very promising. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2023. To be released in September next year.

Suckling over Kreuzberg Riesling 2022
So smoky and spicy it won't let you go after the first encounter. Terrific concentration and a stunning interplay of ripeness with cool minerality, this yet manages to astound you most with its great elegance. All the elements interlocking so precisely at the intense and long finish. Limited production. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2024.

Kreuzberg Riesling 2022

The 2022 Kreuzberg Riesling from Battenfeld-Spanier comes from one of the best vineyards in the southern Wonnegau region of Rheinhessen. This site is unique due to its limestone-rich soils, which impart an unmistakable minerality and elegance to the wine. Hans Oliver Spanier, the winemaker behind Battenfeld-Spanier, is known for his minimalist approach to viticulture and his dedication to creating wines with a distinctive character. The 2022 Kreuzberg Riesling is a bright pale yellow with slightly greenish reflections. The nose is immediately greeted by a fresh, mineral scent, accompanied by intense aromas of citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lime, underpinned by notes of green apple and delicate herbs. A hint of flint and wet limestone is also perceptible, lending the wine a distinctive finesse.
On the palate, the wine impresses with its precise, lively acidity and a taut, focused structure. The fruit is intense but never overpowering—instead, the minerality of the limestone soil clearly comes to the fore. The wine is powerful and profound without losing its lightness. The finish is long and minerally characterized, with a subtle salinity reminiscent of the soil composition of the Kreuzberg.
