Parker about Sassicaia 1994
This is the first vintage that bears the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC appellation. In fact, the 1994 Bolgheri Sassicaia represents the first edition of the first single-winery denomination in Italy and this special distinction has never again been duplicated. Furthermore, this release has never been formally reviewed in Robert Parker Wine Advocate. My impression is that the oak integration is less successful in this effort. There is a moment of hollowness on the mid-palate that is subsequently followed by dry and dusty oak tannins. There are few fruit remnants of prune and dried cherry, but promising more than that is a stretch

Sassicaia 1994

The 1994 Sassicaia presents a mature ruby red with slight garnet reflections at the rim – a typical characteristic of its age. On the nose, it unfolds a multifaceted bouquet with intense notes of ripe black cherries, plum compote, and cassis, harmoniously underpinned by tobacco, cedarwood, and a hint of leather. Subtle hints of licorice, dried herbs, and mineral nuances add further complexity.
On the palate, the wine presents itself as exceptionally elegant and balanced, with fine-grained, perfectly integrated tannins and a lively acidity that provides freshness and structure. The fruit is perfectly preserved in its ripeness, accompanied by spicy and balsamic nuances reminiscent of vanilla and subtly toasted oak. The finish is long and complex, characterized by a harmonious blend of fruit, spice, and mineral accents.
An impressive expression of Tenuta San Guido and the vintage's potential, it is now at the peak of its drinking maturity, but can continue to offer enjoyment for years to come in well-stored bottles. Ideal as a companion to game dishes, aged cheeses, or simply as a meditative wine.
Tenuta San Guido
Information about the winemaker:
What kind of winery are we talking about when we talk about San Guido and why is it so special? The history of San Guido can be traced back to the 1940s. The estate was founded by Mario Incisa della Rochetta, who was considered a visionary of his kind at the time. His descendants continue to run the winery extremely successfully and consistently stick to the methods of their predecessors, which certainly contributes significantly to the success of the wine. The Sassicaia has been imitated again and again over the years. However, no other producer has succeeded in copying the noble drop, because: The Sassicaia is unique.
