Parker about Château Haut Brion 1987

This is an example of a light vintage that produced an immensely seductive, supple, delicious wine that seemed nearly fully mature when released in 1989 yet has continued to offer a fragrant, round, elegant, delicious style of wine that never hit the blockbuster high marks of the great vintages but is, oh, so satisfying and so typically Haut-Brion. Remarkably, the wine seems to defy aging, staying fragrant, sweet, round, relatively light, but delicious and so well balanced. I would have thought this wine would have long faded, but it continues to drink beautifully, with only some amber creeping in at the edge. Anticipated maturity: Now-2006. An example of how perfectly balanced even lighter-styled wines can last longer than anyone expects.

Produktbeschreibung

Château Haut Brion 1987

Château Haut-Brion is a renowned winery in Bordeaux, France, known for its premium wines of outstanding quality. The Château Haut-Brion 1987 is a wine produced in a difficult vintage and therefore exhibits certain characteristics.

The Château Haut-Brion 1987 presents a medium, brownish ruby red color in the glass, indicative of the wine's maturity and age. The 1987 vintage was characterized by challenging weather conditions, which led to less ripe grapes.

On the nose, the wine displays subtle aromas of red fruits such as cherries and red currants, accompanied by notes of tobacco and damp earth. The aromas are not as intense and complex as in outstanding vintages, but the wine still possesses a certain elegance and expressiveness.

On the palate, the Château Haut-Brion 1987 presents a medium body. The fruit aromas are riper and develop into notes of dried fruit. The tannins are softer and the acidity is gentle, giving the wine a pleasant drinkability. The finish is medium-long and displays a certain harmony.

It's important to note that due to the challenges of the vintage, the 1987 Château Haut-Brion doesn't have the long-term cellaring potential of some of the estate's outstanding vintages. Nevertheless, it can be a pleasant wine to drink now.
