Parker about Tignanello 1988
Antinori's Tignanello, one of the first proprietary red Tuscan table wines, is gorgeous in 1988. The color is deep ruby/purple and the nose offers up penetrating aromas of sweet red and black fruits and toasty new oak. In the mouth, this medium to full-bodied wine offers wonderfully precise flavors, excellent richness, good acidity, soft tannins, and a spicy, long, rich finish. Drinkable now, this wine should continue to evolve for at least 10-12 years. I would have to rank this vintage of Tignanello alongside the glorious 1985.

Tignanello 1988

The 1988 Tignanello from Marchesi Antinori is a classic Super Tuscan wine that has undergone remarkable development with age. On the nose, this vintage presents a harmonious combination of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and plums, as well as complex aromas of tobacco, spices, fine leather, and a hint of cedar wood. These aromas are perfectly integrated by time and aging, giving the wine a beautiful depth.
On the palate, the 1988 Tignanello displays a balanced structure with soft, well-integrated tannins and a pleasant acidity that lends it freshness even after decades of ageing. The aromas of red fruits, spices, and a light herbal flavor are well balanced and offer a complex taste experience. The finish is long and elegant, with a fine, slightly mineral aftertaste.
This vintage has evolved beautifully with maturity and today offers a fascinating drinking experience that exceptionally showcases the elegance and complexity of Tignanello. A great wine for lovers of aged Super Tuscans.
