Parker about Château Haut-Brion 1993
Quite a surprise in a difficult vintage, a strict selection and the superb terroir of Haut Brion triumphed over a very challenging year that produced many hard, relatively herbaceous wines. The color is a surprisingly saturated deep plum/ruby. Some sweet berry fruit intermixed with menthol, graphite, damp earth, and a hint of mushroom emerges in this medium-bodied, very elegant Haut Brion that is still firmly structured but has sweet tannin and surprising length and ripeness. The wine will always represent a sleeper style.

Château Haut-Brion 1993

The 1993 Château Haut-Brion displays a ruby red color in the glass with brownish nuances that indicate its age. The 1993 vintage was characterized by difficult weather conditions, but the wine nevertheless developed some maturation elements.
On the nose, the wine reveals subtle aromas of ripe red fruits such as cherries and plums, accompanied by hints of tobacco, leather, and earth. While the aromas may not be as intense as in outstanding years, they still display a certain complexity and depth.
On the palate, the Château Haut-Brion 1993 presents itself with a medium body. The fruity aromas continue, accompanied by a pleasant acidity that gives the wine freshness. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, lending the wine a certain smoothness. The finish is medium-long and pleasant.
It's important to note that due to the challenges of the vintage, the 1993 Château Haut-Brion doesn't have the long-term cellaring potential of some of the estate's outstanding vintages. Nevertheless, it can be a pleasant wine to drink now.
