Parker about Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Alte Reben Großes Gewächs 2020
The 2020 Altenberg Alte Reben GG is clear, bright, fresh and precise on the nose, with concentrated and flinty fruit aromas and notes of broken slate. Silky, crystalline and juicy on the palate, this is a very intense but filigreed and highly finessed Altenberg with a long and aromatic, salivating and highly stimulating finish. A gorgeous Altenberg again that reveals outstanding finesse. Tasted in Wiesbaden in August 2021.

Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Alte Reben Großes Gewächs 2020

This wine, from the 2020 vintage, is made from grapes from the old vines of the Kanzemer Altenberg vineyard. Kanzemer Altenberg is a prime site in the Saar region, known for its steep slate slopes and unique terroir. This wine embodies the essence of this exceptional vineyard and expresses the best of the Riesling grapes.
On the nose, the Van Volxem Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Alte Reben Großes Gewächs 2020 presents an impressive array of aromas. Fresh citrus fruits such as lime and grapefruit combine with subtle floral notes of white blossoms. A delicate mineral presence lends the wine a fascinating depth and complexity.
On the palate, this Riesling is lively and precise. Its crisp acidity lends it a refreshing structure, while aromas of juicy peaches and green apples delight the palate. The wine impresses with its excellent balance between fruit, acidity, and minerality. The long, lingering finish is characterized by impressive minerality and leaves a slight salty note on the tongue.
