Parker about Scharzhofberger Riesling Grosses Gewächs Magnum 2023
The 2023 Scharzhofberger GG is pure and flinty on the intense and very elegant nose that remains cool, precise and slatey even in a warm year such as 2023, which is represented in a fully ripe, intense domestic as well as tropical stone fruit aroma. Full-bodied, round and savory on the palate, this is a generous but elegant Scharzhofberger that is crystalline and rejuvenating on the very long, very intense, elegant and stimulatingly saline finish. This is a great, very promising Riesling. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

Suckling over Scharzhofberger Riesling Grosses Gewächs Magnum 2023
Still quite leesy, but the peachy fruit and zesty acidity give it plenty of appeal on the compact, medium-bodied palate. Almost chewy mid-palate, but the tannins are what power this through the bold, spicy finish. Drink or hold.

Scharzhofberger Riesling Grosses Gewächs Magnum 2023

Van Volxem's Scharzhofberger Riesling Großes Gewächs 2023 embodies the pure essence of the renowned Saar vineyard. Even the aroma reveals a fascinating spectrum: Delicate notes of white peach, lime zest, and juicy Williams pear blend with floral nuances of jasmine and elderflower. A striking minerality, characterized by the finest slate, forms the backbone of this elegant bouquet.
On the palate, the wine presents itself with a precise, cool structure. The lively acidity lends it freshness and energy, while the fruit aromas harmonize with a subtle herbal spice. A salty, almost vibrant minerality runs like a thread through the palate, lending the wine depth and complexity. The finish is exceptionally long and smooth, with a hint of citrus freshness that lingers invigoratingly.
The Scharzhofberger 2023 is a Riesling of great finesse and balance, bearing Van Volxem's unmistakable signature. With its complexity and aging potential, it offers enjoyment both in its youth and for many years to come. A great wine for lovers of the Saar terroir.
