Parker about Château Leoville Las Cases Grand Vin de Léoville 1990
As one might expect, this is a brilliant wine, but it remains shockingly young, even for the fast evolving 1990s. Its deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by a classic, nearly restrained set of aromatics that includes notions of sweet black cherries, black currants, lead pencil, and wet stones. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, and while technically low in acidity, there is a freshness, delineation, and classicism in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated, impeccable 1990. While still youthful, it is easy to appreciate despite its substantial tannins. It is not quite as backward as the 1990 Lafite Rothschild or 1990 Latour. Anticipated maturity: now-2035. Release price: ($500.00/case)

Château Leoville Las Cases Grand Vin de Léoville 1990

Château Léoville Las Cases Grand Vin de Léoville 1990 is a legendary Bordeaux wine from the Saint-Julien appellation, renowned for its depth, power, and longevity. The 1990 vintage is considered one of the finest of the 20th century, producing wines that offer an impressive combination of ripeness and freshness.
The wine has a deep, dark red color with light brick-red reflections, indicating its maturity and complex development. The bouquet is intense and complex, with seductive aromas of ripe blackcurrants, cassis, and plums, accompanied by elegant notes of cedarwood, pencil point, and a hint of tobacco. Aging in oak barrels imparts additional nuances of vanilla, mocha, and delicate spices, further enhancing its complexity.
On the palate, the 1990 Grand Vin de Léoville is powerful yet beautifully balanced, with a dense, silky tannin structure that lends the wine an exquisite texture. The fruit flavors are deep and concentrated, perfectly integrated, and supported by a lively acidity that lends the wine freshness and structure. Nuances of dark chocolate, leather, and a subtle mineral note add further complexity.
The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, characterized by delicate fruit and spice notes that linger gently on the palate. The 1990 vintage is in an excellent drinking window, but also has the potential to evolve and develop additional nuances over many more years.
