Parker about Château Lafite Rothschild 2003

The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estate's great classics, the 1959. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa and cassis. Fat, rich, opulent and full-bodied with low acidity and stunning seductiveness and complexity, this noble winees a bountiful, generous, heady style. It is just coming into its plateau of maturity where it should hold for 20-25 years. This is one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage – make no mistake about that. These are two great successes in this vintage that have aged well and surprised me by their intensity and overall complexity.

Produktbeschreibung

Château Lafite Rothschild 2003

Château Lafite Rothschild 2003 is a remarkable wine from the renowned Pauillac appellation in the Bordeaux region. The 2003 vintage, marked by a hot summer, produced wines that stand out for their rich fruitiness and exceptional structure.

The wine presents itself in a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red, which underlines its concentration and intensity. The bouquet is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe black fruits such as cassis, blackberries, and plums, complemented by elegant notes of cedarwood, tobacco, and graphite. Subtle hints of spices, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee beans add additional depth and complexity.

On the palate, Château Lafite Rothschild 2003 is powerful yet smooth, with impressive structure and well-integrated, fine-grained tannins. The fruit aromas are opulent and harmonious, supported by nuances of mocha, vanilla, and a mineral note. The well-balanced acidity gives the wine a pleasant freshness and ensures elegant balance.

The finish is long and persistent, with elegant fruit and spice notes that delight the palate long after the last sip. The harmonious balance between fruit, tannin, and acidity demonstrates this wine's impressive potential for further aging and development over many years.

Château Lafite Rothschild 2003 is already a true masterpiece and will only improve with age. A wine of exceptional refinement, depth, and elegance, it impressively reflects the tradition and quality of the Pauillac appellation and delights wine lovers around the world.
