Parker about Château Latour Les Forts 2000
The 2000 Les Forts de Latour is a seriously endowed wine with notes of black walnuts, black currants, crushed rock, tobacco and spice box. Full-bodied, luscious but still in need of another 2-3 years to reach full maturity, it certainly can evolve for another 15 or more years, and looks to be slightly richer and longer-lived than I originally predicted. My original ratings appear to have been dead on the money for both of these efforts from Chateau Latour.

Château Latour Les Forts 2000

Château Latour Les Forts de Latour 2000 is an exceptional Bordeaux wine from the Pauillac appellation, considered the second wine of the famous Château Latour. The 2000 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest Bordeaux wines of the 21st century, distinguished by its power, balance, and longevity.
The wine displays a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red color, indicating its concentration and maturity. The bouquet unfolds intense aromas of black currants, blackberries, and ripe plums, accompanied by elegant notes of cedarwood, tobacco, and a hint of graphite. Aging in oak barrels imparts subtle nuances of vanilla, mocha, and delicate spices, further deepening the aroma.
On the palate, Les Forts de Latour 2000 presents itself powerfully and full-bodied, with a dense yet supple tannin structure that lends the wine impressive texture and longevity. The fruit flavors are intense and concentrated, harmoniously integrated with a lively acidity that provides freshness and balance. Notes of dark chocolate, mineral accents, and a hint of licorice add further layers of complexity, leading to a long, elegant finish.
The finish is long and complex, characterized by deep fruit and spice notes that linger on the palate. The 2000 vintage is now in an excellent drinking window, but can also age for many more years to further develop its complex aromas.
Château Latour Les Forts de Latour 2000 is a wine of outstanding quality that perfectly embodies the power and elegance of Pauillac. Ideal for special occasions or as a companion to fine dishes such as beef fillet or game, it offers an unforgettable drinking experience for connoisseurs of great Bordeaux wines.
