Parker about Château Sanctus 2003
Possibly one of two of the most concentrated St.-Juliens (Léoville Las Cases is the other), this 2005 shows wonderfully sweet tannin, a dense ruby/purple color, and lots of crème de cassis, licorice and spice. Full-bodied, opulent, and impressive, it is surprisingly soft, although it will certainly age nicely for 15-20+ years.

Château Sanctus 2003

The 2003 Château Sanctus from the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation presents itself as a powerful and full-bodied wine from a hot vintage, characterized by ripe fruit aromas and a soft structure. This vintage is characterized by impressive concentration and velvety tannins.
In the glass, the 2003 vintage displays a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red color with violet reflections. The bouquet is lush and intense, characterized by aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums, accompanied by spicy notes such as vanilla, cinnamon, and cloves. A light toasted note and hints of licorice and dark chocolate add additional depth to the nose.
On the palate, the 2003 Château Sanctus is full and opulent, with soft, silky tannins that are perfectly integrated. The fruit is dominant and lush, with ripe black fruits harmonizing beautifully with spicy and roasted notes. The warmth of the vintage gives the wine a velvety and round finish, with well-integrated acidity that provides balance. A touch of mineral freshness adds structure and prevents it from becoming overpowering.
The finish is long and intense, with a beautiful harmony of fruit, spices, and a hint of oak. The Château Sanctus 2003 can be enjoyed now, but is also suitable for further aging. It pairs perfectly with hearty meat dishes such as lamb, game, and beef, or with mature cheeses.
