Parker about Clos Du Marquis 2021
The 2021 Clos du Marquis is a lovely wine, offering up aromas of cherries, burning embers, dark berries, loamy soil and truffle, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and velvety wine that's rather deep and serious, reflecting low yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare and a blend dominated by 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 19% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc in supporting roles. Lest anyone underestimate it on the strength of the challenging vintage alone, by the numbers it contains a higher concentration of polyphenols than either the 2019 or 2020 vintages. Tasted three times.

Clos Du Marquis 2021

Clos du Marquis is an outstanding wine and the second wine of the renowned Château Léoville-Las Cases in the Bordeaux region. It represents a distinct style and character, although it is not marketed as the winery's flagship wine.
This cuvée is often made from a careful selection of grapes from younger vines or specific plots not included in the main Léoville-Las Cases cuvée. This allows for a production that reflects the estate's signature qualities and terroir, but in a slightly more accessible and early-drinking style.
The blend of Clos du Marquis varies depending on the vintage, but typically includes a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and possibly other grape varieties. This combination often lends it a balanced structure, ripe fruit flavors, and a certain elegance.
Clos du Marquis wines typically display a fascinating complexity of aromas, ranging from ripe fruits like blackcurrants and cherries to subtle spice notes. On the palate, they present silky tannins and lively acidity, making the wine approachable and enjoyable.
