Parker about Gigondas 1999
Similar, yet with a tad more structure and cut, the 1999 Gigondas (70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and the balance Cinsault) offers rocking dark fruits, ground herbs, underbrush and assorted meatiness to go with a medium to full-bodied, nicely textured feel on the palate. While both the 1999 and the 2000 are fully mature, the 1999 will have a longer evolution.

Gigondas 1999

The 1999 Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas is an impressive red wine from the southern Rhône region, reflecting the qualities of a particularly fine vintage. Gigondas wines are known for their structure and complexity, and the 1999 vintage from Château de Saint Cosme is no exception.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep, dark garnet red color that gradually fades to brick red with age. The nose is immediately greeted by intense aromas of dark fruits such as blackberries, black cherries, and ripe plums. These are accompanied by spicy notes of garrigue (Mediterranean herbs), black pepper, licorice, and subtle oak reminiscent of tobacco and leather.
On the palate, the 1999 Gigondas is powerful and balanced. The tannins are well integrated, giving the wine a velvety structure, while the lively acidity adds freshness. Aromas of black berries, cedar wood, and earthy undertones characterize the taste, which culminates in a long, spicy finish.
