Parker about Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Beerenauslese (0.375l) 2018
The 2018 Altenberg Riesling Beerenauslese AP 71 20 is enormously intense, refined and tropical on the deep and concentrated, flinty and lemon-scented nose. Round, sweet and even frisky, this is a perfectly clear, balanced and finessed BA with incredible precision and stimulating lemon and dark chocolate aromas on the finish. Lush and generous yet vital and tensioned. This is a picture-book BA with endless tropical fruit aromas. Tasted in March 2021.

Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Beerenauslese (0.375l) 2018

The 2018 Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Beerenauslese from Van Volxem is a premium, sweet wine from one of the most outstanding steep slopes on the Saar. The Kanzemer Altenberg is known for its slate-rich soils, which lend the wines a characteristic minerality and elegance. This Beerenauslese is made from overripe, selectively harvested grapes, often affected by botrytis (noble rot). This results in a particularly concentrated and complex wine.
The 2018 vintage is characterized by rich fruit sweetness and lively acidity, resulting in an impressive interplay of intensity and freshness. Aromas of tropical fruits such as mango and pineapple, paired with notes of honey, dried apricots, and a hint of herbs, characterize the flavor profile. The finely integrated acidity ensures perfect balance despite the intense sweetness and lends the wine an impressive structure.
This wine has great ageing potential and can age for decades, developing increasingly complex aromas. It's ideal as a dessert wine or as an accompaniment to fine desserts and hearty cheeses.
