Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia 2023

Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia 2023 is the white ambassador of the iconic Bolgheri winery – a Mediterranean Sauvignon Blanc with great elegance, depth, and freshness, supported by smaller portions of Vermentino, Viognier, and—depending on the vintage—a touch of Verdicchio. The 2023 vintage benefited from a balanced climate with warm days and cool nights, which imparted remarkable aromatics and freshness, especially to the white wine varieties.
In the glass, the wine presents a light straw yellow with slightly greenish reflections – youthful and brilliant. The nose is immediately vibrant and expressive: lemon blossom, lime zest, grapefruit, and white peach dominate initially, followed by subtle exotic notes – pineapple, passion fruit – as well as a hint of fresh herbs, fennel, and wet stone. The oak barrel aging on the fine lees is extremely finely dosed, bringing subtle hints of vanilla, smoke, and roasted almonds into play without ever overpowering the fruit.
On the palate, Poggio alle Gazze 2023 is precise, lively, yet creamy in the mouth. The acidity is clear and carries the aromas elegantly. The Sauvignon brings energy and freshness, while the Mediterranean grape varieties lend the wine a warm, sun-drenched depth and aromatic roundness. The finish is long, saline and mineral, with a finely chiseled herbal spice and floral aftertaste.
Poggio alle Gazze 2023 is a wine for connoisseurs who appreciate precision and expression – a Tuscan white wine with international appeal and a distinctive character. Ideal as a fine accompaniment to fish, shellfish, and white meat dishes, or simply as an elegant solo wine on a bright summer day. A white wine with class, provenance, and plenty of personality.
