Parker about Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp Riesling Großes Gewächs Double Magnum 2023
The 2023 Scharzhofberger P GG is very deep, pure and intense on the still quite reductive yet dense, complex and refreshing nose that is very mineral and stony but also intensely fruity and saline. Full-bodied, rich and powerful yet also vital and nervy on the silky-textured palate, this is a very intense, deep, fine, saline, crystalline and even tannic Scharzhofberger with enormous substance and aging potential. It is still unfinished in a way but ready to be bottled. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted as a sample at the domaine in August 2024.

Suckling over Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp Riesling Großes Gewächs Double Magnum 2023
Great floral and citrus complexity with a whiff of smoke. Compact and tightly wound, with plenty of flint on the concentrated, medium-bodied palate. So much energy in the long, driving finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp Riesling Großes Gewächs Double Magnum 2023

Van Volxem's Scharzhofberger Pergentsknopp Riesling Großes Gewächs 2023 is a masterpiece of precision and complexity, reflecting the legendary site and its unique charisma in every detail. The nose opens with an elegant interplay of yellow fruits, juicy vineyard peach, ripe apricot, and a delicate hint of lime. These are joined by floral notes of chamomile and elderflower, embedded in a striking minerality reminiscent of crushed slate and fresh spring rock.
On the palate, the Pergentsknopp delights with a clear, almost crystalline structure, supported by perfectly integrated acidity that makes the wine appear lively and focused. The fruit aromas are accompanied by a subtle spice reminiscent of white pepper and fennel seeds, while the mineral intensity carries a salty elegance into the long, dynamic finish. The wine is powerful yet delicate, dense yet weightless, a balanced dance between concentration and transparency.
This Riesling epitomizes the magnificence of the Scharzhofberg vineyard and Van Volxem's craftsmanship. A great wine that will gain complexity and depth with each passing year and already offers a stunning experience for connoisseurs of the highest Riesling art.
