Parker about Château Charmail Magnum 2003
This was a brilliant confirmation of the aging ability of this Haut-Medoc. A blend of 50% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, it possesses delicious black currant and blackberry fruit intermingled with notions of licorice and acacia flowers. Round, dense and fleshy, then proprietor Olivier Seze hit pay-dirt with this inexpensive effort. The wine is fully mature, so there is no reason to hold onto it.

Château Charmail Magnum 2003

Château Charmail 2003 is a wine that expresses its particularities and characteristics despite the challenges of the vintage.
On the nose, the wine reveals an intense bouquet of dark fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants, accompanied by spicy notes of tobacco and a hint of vanilla. Despite the heat of the vintage, the aroma retains a certain complexity and intensity.
On the palate, Château Charmail 2003 presents itself with remarkable richness and structure. The tannins are ripe and well-integrated, resulting in a smooth texture. The fruit flavors are generous and juicy, accompanied by a refreshing acidity that brings vibrancy to the wine. Nuances of dark chocolate, spice, and a subtle mineral note contribute to the complexity and add dimension to the wine.
The finish is long and powerful, with remarkable persistence. Although 2003 was a challenging vintage, Château Charmail nevertheless demonstrates its ability to produce balanced and appealing wines. A wine that, while not at the pinnacle of its class, still offers a pleasant drinking experience.
