Parker about Château Clos Lunelles 2002
A beautiful success for a right bank 2002, the dedication and perfectionism of the Perses is evident in this medium to full-bodied, deep ruby/purple-tinged offering. Sweet aromas of mocha, black cherries, cassis, and plums are followed by a silky-textured claret to enjoy over the next 7-8 years. Yields were a low 20 hectoliters per hectare. This large estate, with a fabulous castle on the property, consists of 106 acres planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. With wine consultant Stephane Derenoncourt in the background, this is a property to take seriously.

Château Clos Lunelles 2002

Château Clos Lunelles 2002 is a powerful red wine from the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, vinified under the direction of Gérard Perse, owner of Château Pavie. The 2002 vintage is considered rather classic and cool in Bordeaux, which lends this wine a certain austerity and freshness. The nose reveals notes of dark berries, graphite, tobacco, and a subtle spice. On the palate, it is structured with present tannins, a lovely freshness, and a medium-length, slightly mineral finish. For a wine from Castillon, it impresses with its depth and concentration and shows the potential for several more years of aging. A characterful Bordeaux for connoisseurs of classic styles.
