Parker about Château Haut Brion 2001

Haut-Brion's 2001, which was bottled late (the end of September, 2003), possesses an unmistakable nobility as well as a burgeoning complexity. Plum/purple to the rim, this blend of 52% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 12% Cabernet Franc is playing it close to the vest, having closed down considerably after bottling. Nevertheless, it reveals pure notes of sweet and sour cherries, black currants, licorice, smoke, and crushed stones. Medium-bodied with excellent purity, firm tannin, and an angular, structured finish, it requires 5-7 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2020+.

Château Haut Brion 2001

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most prestigious wineries in Bordeaux, France, and is known for its first-class, long-aging wines. The Château Haut-Brion 2001 is a remarkable wine from this renowned house, reflecting the characteristics of an excellent vintage and the estate's signature elegance.

In the glass, the 2001 Château Haut-Brion displays a deep red color with violet nuances that indicate its youth. The 2001 vintage was considered very good in Bordeaux, and Haut-Brion, too, has fully exploited the potential of this vintage.

On the nose, the wine presents a complex and multi-layered bouquet. Aromas of dark berries such as blackcurrants and blackberries dominate, accompanied by subtle notes of tobacco, cedarwood, graphite, and a hint of spice. These aromas lend the wine depth, complexity, and a fascinating array of flavors.

On the palate, the Château Haut-Brion 2001 displays impressive structure and elegance. The ripe fruit aromas continue, accompanied by notes of chocolate, coffee, and delicate spices. The tannins are smooth and well-integrated, giving the wine a silky texture and a pleasant mouthfeel. The acidity is lively, providing freshness and balance. The finish is long, persistent, and harmonious.

The Château Haut-Brion 2001 is a wine of exceptional quality and one of the estate's top wines. With its excellent structure, remarkable complexity, and ability to delight the senses, it is a true delight for discerning wine lovers. This vintage has already undergone several years of bottle aging and is at its optimum drinking maturity. At the same time, it still possesses excellent potential for many years of storage and aging.
